When your final paycheck is due in Missouri
In Missouri, a fired worker must be paid on the day of discharge. No statute sets a deadline if you quit.
- Fired or laid off
- On the day of discharge
- If you quit
- No statute sets a deadline for employees who quit
- If the employer pays late
- If the employee asks in writing and the pay does not arrive within 7 days, wages continue at the same rate until paid, up to 60 days.
Does not apply to some commission employees whose final pay requires an audit.
The law
Mo. Rev. Stat. § 290.110. Read the statute or the state agency’s page.
Checked against the statute in October 2026. Laws change, so confirm the current rule before you rely on it.
What to do next
If the deadline has passed, ask for the wages in writing first and keep a copy. The free first letter in the Wage Claim Letters kit does this. If that doesn’t work, small claims court is the usual next step. The final paycheck lookup compares states side by side.
